After six years… is this the end?
Over the past few months I’ve noticed my six year old WinXp Pro machine, my workhorse, my handmade multi-media powerhouse taking longer and longer to shut down. I’ve defragged, optimized, Virus swept, the works but shutdown would sometimes take up to five minutes with no programs running. Last night, everything seemed to be working fine and after three minutes it eventually shut down after I clicked it to do so.
This morning I decided to clean up the rats nest of AV cables I have dangling beneath my desk and even vaccuum (with a plastic hose) the inside of the CPU case. Well, I’ll have you know that underneath the desk looks great and the computer fans and motherboard couldn’t be any cleaner. But when I tried to turn it on? It boots up okay but no OS. I mean blank screen. So right now, it’s over at the local repair shop hopefully to be repaired. Sure, I’ve backed up my files onto another hard drive… just not what I was working on last night. Doh!
So now I’m busy bringing my second machine online… and yes, you’ve pressured me. I’ll upgrade to Windows 7.
